🏛️ The Vision

Veterans’ House Hasselt is an ambitious, heartfelt initiative to restore and repurpose a house at Hasselt, The Netherlands, into a permanent space for veterans.
This historic property, once the birthplace of Kiliaen van Rensselaer, will be transformed into a Veterans' Meeting Place, a Resource and Service Hub, and a Living Monument.

The project is led by team with over 60 years of combined experience in business leadership, logistics, property development, and construction management — ensuring this vision is not only heartfelt, but practically achievable and professionally executed.

A welcoming, peaceful space for veterans to gather for daily visits, special reunions, remembrance events, and workshops — building friendships, support networks, and community.

Under one roof: access to mental health support, career guidance, and practical help tailored for veterans — in partnership with care professionals and advisors.

🕊️ A Living Monument
Every donor, regardless of donation size, will have their name engraved into the notarial deed of ownership of the house — symbolizing their lasting contribution to this national effort.

👥 The Team Behind the Vision

🪖 Henk Haasjes
A Dutch veteran and peacekeeper who served in Lebanon in 1983. Now based in Australia, Henk has a lifetime of experience in international logistics, business operations, and nonprofit coordination. His connection to Hasselt and his fellow veterans fuels his commitment.

🏢 Foundation: The project is managed by Stichting Veteranenhuis Hasselt, a nonprofit foundation committed to transparency, community, and long-term stewardship.

🤝 The project also benefits from the active involvement of local businesspeople, financial advisors, architects, and a team of committed volunteers.

🏛️ De Visie

Veteranenhuis Hasselt is een ambitieus en betrokken initiatief om een gotisch rijksmonument in Hasselt om te vormen tot een permanente plek voor veteranen.
Het voormalige geboortehuis van Kiliaen van Rensselaer wordt een ontmoetingsplaats, hulpcentrum, en levend monument voor alle veteranen in Nederland.

Het project wordt geleid door twee meer dan 60 jaar ervaring in bedrijfsvoering, logistiek, bouwbegeleiding en renovatie — waardoor dit project zowel emotioneel als praktisch stevig is verankerd.

Toegang tot mentale zorg, loopbaanbegeleiding en praktische ondersteuning — onder één dak, in samenwerking met professionals en instanties.

Elke donateur wordt vermeld in de notariële eigendomsakte van het huis – als blijvende erkenning voor hun bijdrage.

De centrale ligging, bereikbaarheid en rust maken het een ideale plek om veteranen te ontvangen, ondersteunen en eren.

👥 Leiding en Team

🪖 Henk Haasjes
Nederlandse veteraan en vredesmilitair (Libanon, 1983), woont nu in Australië.
Henk heeft tientallen jaren ervaring in internationale logistiek, zakelijke leiding en non-profitorganisatiebeheer.
